Vaccinations? There have been concerns raised in recent years with the skin cancer, sarcomas/tumors or whatever they are. I'm not taking the time to look up specifics at this moment; you should know what I'm talking about. Talk of over vaccinating, it makes perfect sense that cats who have been vaccinated for years should have built up a good immunity. Titers are expensive, but the only way to prove antibodies. Older cats can have reactions to vaccinations. I am really upset due to a recent experience.
Zeus is a healthy 6 year old, neutered male. I took him in for his annuals on a Friday. I had to take him back in Monday am, he had not eaten or drank all weekend! His wbc count was elevated and his rbc count was low. He was x-rayed, CBCed, profiled, tested for everything, had urinalysis, antibiotics, steroids, heparin, fluids, the works. The bill was $583., but he is home now and in great shape.
My Sierra is due her shots, she was diagnosed with an enlarged heart several years ago. I can't imagine her surviving what Zeus went through!
I don't know what to feel, besides scared to do anything!
What do you do about vaccinating your cats and what would you do if one of yours had a reaction like poor Zeus?
