From Franny Syufy, your Guide to Cats

More reviews are coming in the days ahead, and I'm excited about an upcoming interview or two with some pretty fantastic cat people.

The 4th of July is just a week away, so plan ahead to keep your cats safe and sane. (My cats are pretty nutty every day, and fireworks would send them ballistic!) Better yet, I'm going to cuddle them all week to help mellow them out, and just because I love them.

From Franny Syufy, your Guide to Cats

Huge apologies for the inadvertent attack of the giant toxic moth photo on those of you who received yesterday's weekly newsletter. Apparently we are no longer capable of including newsletter-sized images in our newsletters.

I am resending the newsletter so my readers can enjoy the content and click through to see the beautiful images within the articles.

The Rest of The Story:

We've had a series of disturbing encounters with critters like black widow spiders, centipedes, and wasps, this year. When I noticed our cats' predilection for catching and eating moths, I felt it was high time I learned more about those insects. The information I learned through research was enlightening, often surprising, and sometimes disturbing.

Our newsletter this week also covers kittens to geriatric cats, and how to help them live longer, happier lives, a goal we all have in common. Until next week, love them to pieces for they are with us such a short time.

Cats and Insects - Tasty Treats or Toxic Trouble?

Have you ever wondered whether eating moths was dangerous to cats? Has your snoopy kitty ever been stung on the nose by a wasp? Does your cat like to roll around in an ant trail, then lick them up like a kid licking a lolly pop?

Find out more about cats and a variety of insects when you read this latest article.

Kittens are particularly susceptible to infectious diseases such as panleukopenia (aka feline distemper), or Rhinotracheitis (Feline Herpes), which are potentially fatal unless protected by their mothers' immunity from vaccine or the kittens' immunization.

Am I Ready for a Cat?

Things to consider before bringing a new cat into your life, to ensure the decision is a sound one. Think about allergies, young kids in the house, and your financial and emotional ability to care for a cat. In a nutshell, ask yourself, 'Am I ready for a cat?'

It's a big decision, and not one to enter into with haste, as cats are not meant to be disposable.

Countering Counter-Surfing Cats
One of the more common discussions in the Cats Forum as well as my email box is on keeping cats off the kitchen counter. Indeed, some people are of the conviction that it's okay to let their cats counter-surf. However, I'm with the side that views counter-surfing as unsafe, because of potential hazards to the cats, such as jumping on a hot stove or ingesting cleaning products' residue.

Allergic to Cats?
Thousands of victims of hay fever, asthma, and other allergies are able to cope with their allergies while living with the cats they love. These articles and features can help those with allergies who are determined to keep their cats.
