About.com

Cat of the Week: Sesame
From Franny Syufy, your Guide to Cats
This Week's Cat
Sesame
Sesame lives in China, and has an interesting story. Her owner relates, "We call her Sesame cus of her pretty tabby coat, and in Chinese, sesame has an underlying meaning as small and tiny. That's our first impression when my boyfriend and I saw her crawling and meowing on a man who's selling her for 20RMB (approximately 2 American dollars) on the street."

More Tidbits
Where to Get a Cat
Although the way Sally found Sesame is unusual in the western world, there are some other excellent ways of finding cats to adopt, many of them involving rescue of a different sort.

Kitten Care
If you have a new kitten of your own, you might be interested in enrolling in this email class - all about caring for a kitten.

About.com

Cat of the Week: McGee
From Franny Syufy, your Guide to Cats
This Week's Cat
McGee
McGee has a propensity for being cute, and her proud mom, Hayes never misses a photo op. She's a calico, and like last week's tortie, calico girls rule the roost.

More Calico Beauties
Calico cats represent the brilliant rainbow of colors in a sunny July day. Of all cat color patterns, Calicos are perhaps the loveliest with their tri-colored exuberance. Although most Calicos are females because of genetics, the rare male does sometimes pop up, as you will see in this album.

About.com

Cat of the Week: Didda
From Franny Syufy, your Guide to Cats
This Week's Cat
Diddapus
Didda, as she is affectionately called by her willing slave, Nancy, is a particularly gorgeous example of a tortoiseshell kitty. Torties are almost always females; it's in their genes.

Extras
More Information on Genetics
The study of genetics is so complicated that I leave it to the experts. But if you have an analytical mind, and love to weave your way through charts and mazes, feline genetics might be just your cup of catnip.

More Tortie Photos
November is for tortoiseshell ladies, because they are cloaked in the lovely colors of fall. Let's take a stroll through this rainbow of November beauties, each one reminiscent of a pile of maple leaves glowing in the crisp fall air.

Cat of the Week: Cat of the Week: Leo

About.com

Cat of the Week: Leo
From Franny Syufy, your Guide to Cats
This Week's Cat
Leo
Leo has a multitude of cute nicknames along with an extraordinary amount of patience for playing dressup games for his doting Mamma, Monica. I'm a sucker for red cats, and this one looked like my own Jaspurr

More Red Cats
Red cats are honored in December. It's also a great month for snuggling with your cat in front of a crackling fire, particularly if your cat mirrors the colors of the flames. And of course we can't forget that December is red for the color of Christmas stockings and Santa's suit, as well as the color of the flames on Chanukkah candles.

About.com

Cat of the Week: Honey
From Franny Syufy, your Guide to Cats
This Week's Cat
Honey
Honey grew from a small ball of dandelion fluff to a glorious cat with "middle-age" spread, under the loving care of Dianne. Honey also has an unusual trait going for her: she is a female red tabby, which although not as rare as male calicos, is still pretty special.

The December Cat Calendar
December is for holidays and keeping in touch with friends and loved ones. It's also a great month for snuggling with your cat in front of a crackling fire, particularly if your cat mirrors the colors of the flames. And of course we can't forget that December is red for the color of Christmas stockings and Santa's suit, as well as the color of the flames on Chanukkah candles.

About.com

Cat of the Week: Coco
From Franny Syufy, your Guide to Cats
This Week's Cat
Coco
Coco was just a farm cat, matted and ornery, when she found Candace. She only wanted love and a forever home, and, eight years later, I think it's safe to say she got both!

When Do You Look to Find One?
Although it's often a case of a needy cat finding you, if you feel an immediate need for a new cat in your life, this is a good place to start.

About.com

Cat of the Week: Reeces
From Franny Syufy, your Guide to Cats
This Week's Cat
Reeces
Reeces was a forlorn calico girl who was destined to be a street cat until Nicky adopted her. What a serendipitous event for both of them!

More on Calicos
Calico cats represent the brilliant rainbow of colors in a sunny July day. Of all cat color patterns, Calicos are perhaps the loveliest with their tri-colored exuberance. Although most Calicos are females because of genetics, the rare male does sometimes pop up, as you will see in this album.

Janice is a very feminine cat with a feminine name. She makes her home with 25 other cats, both Birman and Angora.

More About These Breeds
Birmans
The Sacred Cat of Burma has a history shrouded in legends. Solidly built with long silky hair, the Birman is eye-catching in its beauty, and a wonderful pet. Read more to see if a Birman is for you.

Angoras (Oriental Longhair)
Although early Persians were sometimes called "Angoras," the only longtime-recognized Angora breed is the Turkish Angora. A newer breed being developed in the U.K. is the Longhair Oriental, also known as the "Angora."
