From Franny Syufy, your Guide to Cats

Some new stuff, and some old, this week. Next week, I'd like to have more new. But I need your help, because this newsletter is meant for you, not for me. I've put together a little poll, and invite you to vote for your favorite cat topics. See you next week, and keep yourselves and your kitties cool 'til then.

Poll: Cat Refrigerator Magnets

My fellow cat fanatic, Barry, was wondering how many cat-related refrigerator magnets I had. I have 15, as shown in this photo. Over the years, when visiting friends who are passionate about cats, all kinds of cat mementos have been present in their homes, so I'd assume Barry and I are not unusual in that way.

Benefits of Seniors' Adoption of Cats

A cat may make the perfect companion for an elderly person, or a retiree who lives alone.

It is not unusual for the elderly who live alone to be depressed. One of the benefits of feline companionship in those circumstances is their ability to help with depression. If you find yourself in that age bracket and suddenly alone and lonely, this article may help you decide whether or not a cat may have a place in your life.

Cat Picture of the Week: Sophie

Photo of Calico Cat Sophie

Calico cats are the most colorful of all cats, and Sophie, the star of our first Cat Picture of the Week for July, is a lovely example, with her striking red, black, and white color pattern.

Although born in a barn, Sophie lives a pretty glamorous life now, as a much loved indoor-only cat. Cynthia writes that although Sophie likes to be petted, and loves to play, she doesn't particularly like to be held, a trait not uncommon to calicoes and torties. If you share your home with a colorful calico girl, be sure to submit her photos and story with this easy fill-in-the-blanks form. Who knows? She might be the next Cat of the Week for July.
