From Franny Syufy, your Guide to Cats

Our next newsletter will mark the first of August. It is one of my favorite months because we will focus on Domestic cats and Mixed Breeds. Take advantage now to enter your own "moggie's" photos and story. Your cat could be the next Cat Picture of the Week.

We are still in the midst of a country-wide heat wave, so keep your cats cool until we meet again.

Cat Picture of the Week: Minx

Minx, our third Cat of the Week for July, 2013, is a sweet and petite calico girl. She and her adopted Mom have a bond forged from the day she was rescued as a tiny fledgling, and brought home in a pocket.

Minx will never have to live the life her catmom lived, neglected, out on the streets. The only way she goes outside now is either on a leash or in a backpack-type carrier. The latter is a throwback from when Dianne carried her everywhere in her pocket. Read more of Minx's story, and find out how to submit your calico cat's photo and story.

Cat Personality Types

How much do you really understand about your cat's personality? Is he an Alpha cat, or shy and withdrawn? Is she mercurial, so you don't know from one minute to the next whether she will be outgoing and playful, or quiet, almost to the point of being depressed?

My Jenny is full of the "tortitude," common among tortoiseshell and calico cats. However, sometimes that attitude can be her downfall, when Jaspurr decides to have some fun with her. Jaspurr is our Alpha cat, a designation bequeathed to him with the passing of our cat, Bubba, in 2005. But Jaspurr feels threatened by Jenny's sassiness, which makes for some interesting interaction between the two of them. Learn more about the main factors which determine cats' personalities.
