From Franny Syufy, your Guide to Cats

Thanks to all the kind readers who commiserated with me last week over my computer problems. Even though I may not yet have responded, I truly appreciate the suggestions and support.

Stay cool, keep your cats safely inside today, and see you next week.

July's Featured Cats

July is the month we celebrate calico cats - fitting because in the U.S. we also celebrate the 4th of July, with the red, white, and blue colors of our flag.

Beautiful Sammy, pictured here, is a longhaired calico cat. A larger photo of her, along with her story, was featured in the 2008 Calico Cats Photo Gallery . Sammy was 13 years old at that time, a lovely example of a well cared for senior cat. Now you can have your own calico girl's photo in the Calico Cat Show and Tell Gallery. Simply fill out the submittal form, upload up to two of your very best photos, and write a compelling story of your cat and how she came to be yours. Perhaps you might find her some day this month featured as a Cat Picture of the Week.

iPad Apps for Cat Play

These iPad Apps are a kind of an interactive cat game, in that the human must supply the iPad and load the game. After that, it's almost like kitty TV, except that with the iPad Apps, the cat actually can interact with the game. There are "catch the mouse, spider, or other critter" games, two cat painting games, and a free game from Friskies that keeps score between humans and cats. I bet there will be some very happy kitties playing with these games.
