From Franny Syufy, your Guide to Cats

A bit of a switch this week. It's important for us to understand why some people don't particularly like cats. I have friends who fit into that category, and I'm sure many of my readers do too. On the other paw, if you find this newsletter helpful, please forward it to another cat lover, or send them the link below. Have a great weekend, and keep yourself and your cats cool.

7 Reasons People Don't Like Cats

You might be wondering "Why on earth would anyone dislike cats?" Although there are likely more than seven reasons why someone might not like cats, or even profess to hate them, this article covers what I consider to be seven main reasons.

Look at this sweet face. Could you imagine why anyone would dislike this pretty calico girl? Could it be that they are bothered with allergies to cats, so severe that they suffer disabling asthmatic attacks when even in the same house as a cat? Yes, that's one of the seven reasons. Read the list to disover six more.

July Celebrates Calico Cats

Wow! It's July already - where did the first half of the year go so quickly? We celebrate calico cats in July, as their colors remind us of the flag, and their sassy spirit is fitting for an Independence Day celebration.

Calico cats' tri-color patches come in as many variations as a field of summer flowers. Read the profile of the Calico that describes common characteristics of colorful Calico Cats, then if you are lucky enough to have one of these sassy girls, please share her photo with other readers.

Cat Picture of the Week: Lucy

Loneliness can be a motivator to adopt a cat, as "Tootsie" discovered after her feline companion of 17 years passed on. Three months later, she decided to take a trip to the Birmingham Humane Shelter "just to look." She didn't have to look long to discover Lucy (then named "Priscilla,") who had free range of the infirmary. Lucy, a blue-eyed, gray and white part Siamese kitty, was sitting in the infirmary window looking at her. Tootsie and Lucy said "hello," and the deal was sealed.
