Please forward this newsletter to your friends, neighbors, and co-workers who might be interested in learning more about cats. Have a great weekend, stay cool, and I don't even have to remind you to love on a cat or three (but I will anyway.)

Popular Cat Videos on About.com

The About.com Video Team uses professional video producers to provide a visual supplement to About.com Cats content. This list of cat videos give the viewer a look at live cats demonstrating various cat topics. Covered are cat breeds, cat care, and a number of instructive "how to" videos, including How to Bathe a Cat, and How to Change a Litter Box. Cost-saving videos teach how to make cat toys, a $20 cat climbing tower, and more. Each video includes a written transcript underneath the video window, for ready reference. These are the current twelve most popular cat videos on my site. About.com Cats presently provides 33 videos

Shelter Cat Adoption

I have always believed that adopting a cat from a shelter or a rescue group is the best way possible to welcome a new furry member into the family. Of the four cats now enriching my home and my life, three were adopted from cat rescue groups. The fourth and last to be adopted was Jennifur, who actually adopted me as an escape from the inhumane life she had led as a kitten.

I've put together a list of useful things to know or consider about Shelter Cat Adoption. Discussed are details such as why you should choose your own local shelter first; adopting a cat online; what to expect when you bring your cat home, and many more considerations.

FDA's Investigations of Diamond Pet Food Plants

Updated June 5, 2012: The FDA is collaborating with the CDC (Center for Disease Control in the investigation of the Diamond Pet Food plants, as a result of human illness from salmonella infantis. One lawsuit has been filed by the parents of an infant hospitalized with the disease. I have consolidated all recalls up to the current date with the most current information, on Page 3 of The Anatomy of Pet Food Recalls. In the near future, I will add a table with all the pertinent information about each pet food recalled to that page.

Taking the Plunge for Your First Cat?

You may have wanted a cat for awhile or have just recently been introduced to them by a friend or co-worker. At any rate, you feel ready to take the plunge, but don't know quite how to start. You no doubt have dozens of questions running through your mind: "Should I get a male cat or a female, a kitten or an older cat?" "I'd really like a purebred (name your favorite breed), but maybe I should adopt a mixed breed instead." Before You Adopt a Cat" helps answer those questions, as well as a few you haven't thought of. Adopting a cat for the first time should be a lifetime commitment, so it is important to do your homework first.
