From Franny Syufy, your Guide to Cats

Jenny is starting to look askance at me when she sees me reading my Kindle. She figures an iPad would be *much* better, and she could play games on it. Typical cat logic.

Please forward this newsletter to your friends, neighbors, and co-workers who might be interested in learning more about cats.

You and your kitties stay cool, and we'll meet again next week.

iPad Apps for Cats

These iPad Apps are a kind of an interactive cat game, in that the human must supply the iPad and load the game. After that, it's almost like kitty TV, except that with the iPad Apps, the cat actually can interact with the game. There are "catch the mouse, spider, or other critter" games, two cat painting games, and a free game from Friskies that keeps score between humans and cats. I bet there will be some very happy kitties playing with these games.

How to Foil Counter-Surfing Cats

Kitchen Counters attract cats like a magnet, for several reasons:

  • Cats Love Heights
  • Kitchen Counters Smell Good!
  • They Like to Drink Running Water
  • They Tend to Go Where You Don't Want Them
While seeing a cute catsqueezed into a cooking pot is a great photo op, what if the pot was warming on a burner? Check out the details with specific suggestions for countering each of the attractions listed above.

Things Cats Hate

A pretty sizeable majority of things cats hate have to do with changes of any kind. And the duration of their upset is usually directly related to the severity/length of the disturbance or change. My cats had more than their fair share of stress in the past year, what with the fix-up and sale of our previous home, then the subsequent move. Now that we're more or less settled in our new home, we try to minimize the changes and establish a daily routine the cats can count on, including plenty of together time with each cat. Read more of the list of cats' pet peeves, then use the form at the bottom of the list to hare and compare with other readers.

Cat Picture of the Week: Montecore

Montecore is a handsome blue tabby cat with blue eyes, and could possibly have some Siamese in his background, according to Marge Daboll, his adoptive mother. Marge is fond of Siamese cats, and her last Siamese lived to 18 years, a testament to her responsible care. Marge is one of those rare folks who are extremely intuitive about cats. Although she didn't say it in so many words, I suspect she is a sort of a "cat whisperer." Read more of Montecore's story as Cat of the Week.
