From Franny Syufy, your Guide to Cats

I bought some mistletoe sprigs today at the Christmas tree farm, mostly because the entrepreneurial  four year old granddaughter of the owner had put them together. They'll stay outside on the front door wreath, because they are toxic to cats, as are also poinsettias. Check out this list of other indoor plants poisonous to cats.

Keep your cats safe, warm, and well-hugged this week. I'm looking forward to meeting again next Thursday.

Seasonal Safety Reminders for Cats

Christmas trees are traditional for many families, but when families include cats, we need to keep their safety in mind when decorating the tree.

photo of cat looking at Christmas TreeFour of my cats are old enough that they are no longer interested in climbing our Christmas trees. However, they are not averse to batting the ornaments or even trying to sample the tree needles. But my two new kittens, Sage and Gaither, are going to be typical kittens, and I have no doubt one or both of them will be climbing our tree this year the first day.

Cats' Top Pet Peeves
Did it ever occur to you that your cat's misbehavior and/or bad attitude might be a result of things you do or don't do? For instance, would you want to use a public restroom that smells like a dirty litter box? Just as we humans do, cats have pet peeves too.

Review: "Cat Sense," by John Bradshaw
John Bradshaw, a world-renowned anthrozoologist has recently published his latest book, "Cat Sense, - How the New Feline Science Can Make You a Better Friend to Your Pet."  Don't let the sub-title scare you away. Yes, the book refers to a number of scientific studies, but it is also packed with fascinating facts and advice about cats. It was a real education for me, and I'm sure Cat Sense will provide the same for my readers.
