From Franny Syufy, your Guide to Cats

Pet food recalls are scary - two on this week's list are foods by the same companies who make those I've been feeding my four cats. All the recalled foods listed so far are dog food, but cat foods are made by the same manufacturer.

Happy Mothers Day to all the moms out there, whether your kids are human or feline!

Mothers Day Cat Style

Mothers Day is this Sunday, May 13th, and again I'll celebrate it as I have every year since my own Mom passed away: by donating either to a local cat rescue for the spay/neuter of a rescued cat, or to a group that provides low cost spay and neuter programs to local residents.

Happy Mothers Day to all the Moms of both human and fur-bearing kids! And if you have a female cat or kitten, please do the kind, responsible thing by having her spayed at your earliest opportunity. They deserve nothing less.

Salmonella Recalls by Diamond Pet Foods

Diamond Pet Foods has led consumers on a pet food recall merry-go-round for several weeks, with one voluntary recall after another for "potential salmonella contamination" in pet foods manufactured in its Gaston, S.C. plant. As early as April 6, 2012, Diamond recalled several batches of Diamond Naturals Lamb Meal & Rice dog food, according to The Truth About Pet Food.com. On April 26th, Diamond added Chicken Soup for the Pet Lovers Soul (two sizes of adult light dry dog food), this time when salmonella tested positive. E-Course: Care of a Pregnant Cat

Many people find themselves with a pregnant cat on hand and have no idea how to care for the cat during the course of her pregnancy, nor immediately afterward. This course was developed to give the cat and its kittens a fighting chance. For those who think I am supporting or promoting the irresponsible breeding of pet cats, be assured there are plenty of references to spay & neuter throughout this email course. You should receive Lesson 1 immediately after signing up for the course.

Cool Cat Photo of the Week: BooBoo, Kittyback for Buffalo Bi

Another tuxedo cat bonus this week. Booboo was adopted from a rescue shelter when he was about four months old, and is the master of the household. He sleeps with his human mom, and after a little trial and error has his favorite food, cat litter, and even has his own toybox, including daBird, his (and thousands of other cats') favorite. Maybe he's just a little spoiled because he's the first cat his mom ever had.
