From Franny Syufy, your Guide to Cats

I've always thought that January is like a nice, clean new slate. I have a certain amount of control over what is written on it, but remain aware that my control is limited.

I have but one New Year Resolution for 2013: to make a difference in the world of cats, starting with the ones closest to me. I invite my readers to send me your most important resolution in reply to this newsletter. Although I cannot reply to each email, I will publish ten of the best ones with photos of your cats.

Cat Picture of the Week: Puff

January features Adopted Shelter Kittens for special recognition. The history behind Puff's adoption as a young kitten is so amazing that I did not look any further for my first Cat Picture of the Week for 2013. I'm sure you will agree after you have read his story. . .read more.

Personalities of the 12 Favorite Cat Breeds

Each of us has a favorite cat breed. Mine, like many of my readers and friends, is the Domestic cat, not officially recognized as a breed, but popular enough to be included in the Personalities of the 12 Favorite Cat Breeds.

Domestic cats' personalities are as varied as their color patterns, because their personalities are determined by so many different factors. Conversely, purebred cat personality types are an important part of their breeding. Learn more about the Personalities of the 12 Favorite Cat Breeds with this article.

How, Why, and When to Train a Cat

Perhaps your cat has started to pee outside the box, and you are beside yourself. Or maybe your sofa is starting to look shredded and threadbare, and you're embarrassed when visitors come by. Yelling at the cat isn't doing anything, and squirting the cat with a spray bottle doesn't work, nor does rubbing his nose in the pee. You're at your wit's end and don't know what to do, and your spouse is starting to make noises about getting rid of the cat, and that's the last thing you want to do.

You're not alone. Many cat lovers have faced similar problems - myself included. Fortunately, help is at hand. For starters, take a look at Cat Training - How, Why, and When to Train a Cat. Then check out the huge compilation of cat behavior and training material available right on this Website.

Cat Food Bag Becomes Shopping Bag

Make Tote Bags from Feed Bags. I loved the project so much that I'm delighted to share it with my "crafty" readers too.

I'm almost a hoarder where it comes to cat-related art, jewelry, trinkets, and memorabilia, but useful things you can make from "found" materials are even better. This bag could be used for shopping, for carrying around crochet, knitting, or craft projects, or even for packing sandwiches, chips, and apples for an impromptu backyard picnic.
