The 4th of July, Independence Day in the U.S., is the most traumatic day of the year for cats. If you live in the U.S., some people tend to forget the meaning of "Independence Day," but concentrate their celebration on "bombs bursting mid-air" and barbecues. For your cats safety, please take these tips into consideration as the holiday approaches. My veterinarian tells me that the 5th of July is the busiest day of the year for shelters - no doubt because of the number of pets running away in fear. But hopefully, this year in my new forest-surrounded home, the loudest thing my cats will hear on July 4th will be the sound of deer munching the hay we provide. Enjoy! | Cat Picture of the Week: Wilson Sometimes a cat seems destined to live with a certain human. No one can explain the cosmic forces that come into play, but this truth comes into play with regularity. Such was the case of Wilson, an eight year old cat in the infirmary of the San Diego Humane Society, with an upper respiratory infection. His intended human companion, Philip, saw his photo on the humane society's website, and was drawn to visit the shelter the next day. It wasn't long before Wilson became a feline member of Philip's household. See more of Philip's Cat Picture of the Week story.
